Core Paths
Under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 every local authority in Scotland, including South Ayrshire Council, was required to draw up a plan for a system of core paths that gives the public reasonable access throughout their area.
Core paths are key routes that are part of the wider path network of walking and cycling routes, and local and community paths. They help people to exercise their access rights responsibly and with confidence, and help to harmonise access and land management operations.
South Ayrshire Council’s Core Paths Plan was adopted, following a public inquiry, in November 2014.
