South Ayrshire Paths Initiative community group are working to improve walking and cycling infrastructure in the area. We are also promoting existing paths and routes as well as assisting with projects managed by other organisations in South Ayrshire.
Troon Cycle Friendly Toon
Troon has two mostly off-road cycle paths that run along the edge of town – National Cycle Network NCN7 along the coast and a local cycle path running parallel to the east. The South Ayrshire Paths Initiative are driving a project to improve connections to the centre of town and to make it safer and more welcoming for cyclists and walkers alike.
The Culzean Way
The South Ayrshire Paths Initiative are working to improve walking and cycling access to the coastline south of Ayr. We hope to use the track bed of the dismantled Maidens and Dunure Light Railway where possible to create an all abilities traffic free path between Ayr and Girvan with Culzean Castle and Country Park as it’s centrepiece.
Dunure Road underpass
This proposal is to link NCN7 and Alloway/Burton cycle paths by restoring the disused railway tunnel under the 60 mph Dunure Road, Doonfoot, Ayr. This project is being led by Ayrshire Roads Alliance with the support of South Ayrshire Council, South Ayrshire Paths Initiative, Alloway & Doonfoot Community Council and Dunure Community Council.
Dundonald to Barassie path
A new off road multi user path is being proposed to link Dundonald and Barassie towns. Pioneered by Dundonald Community Council and supported by South Ayrshire Paths Initiative.
Girvan walking and cycling infrastructure
The South Ayrshire Paths Initiative are reviewing walking and cycling infrastructure in Girvan with a view to improvements for residents and visitors alike.
